Goodbye & Hello
A farewell to Substack
It’s been many months since we connected, but instead of starting with pleasantries, let’s just get right down to it.
The era of Positively Nonbinary on Substack is over. The era of Positively Nonbinary on Patreon has just begun.
From Here to There
The day I decided to actually launch Positively Nonbinary, I got an email from a queer news org. The subject line was gutting. It told of extreme violence against someone showing a modicum of support for queer people.
I needed a palate cleanser. I felt desperate for a queer news source that would uplift me, at least some of the time.
Today, as I write this and move the backlog of posts I’ve created over, another hard headline hit my inbox. Not that there’s been any shortage of bad news lately.
It’s so hard out here, ya’ll. And it’s so, so good to be back.
Things are Going to Look Different
In addition to moving things over to Patreon, Positively Nonbinary will be accessed through Purple Prairie Productions, our multimedia company.
This aligns with my long-term goals of combining my projects under one self-sustaining umbrella.
If you don’t already know, Purple Prairie is an amalgamation of my work and my wife’s. We focus on queer, trans, and neurodivergent-led media, including, but not limited to, newsletters (like this one!), streams, events, and live shows. Some projects are in the works, and others have been waiting to make their home on Patreon.
What does this mean for me, the reader?
Honestly, not much! If anything, the dynamic nature of Patreon just makes it easier for me to make you higher quality stuff.
I’m in the process of integrating my email list into Patreon, but if you hop over now, there are discounts for you. Use code PN50 for 50% off $5 ‘Prairie Grass’ subscriptions, which includes access to interviews.
You can sign up for Positively Nonbinary by going here and making a Patreon account, or using your existing account to find and subscribe to us. Since the news is always free, you don’t have to worry about paid subscriptions. Basically, the only thing that changes is you do have to make a new account (boo) but you get good queer news on a platform that doesn’t promote hate speech-driven publications.
Alternatively, you don’t need to make an account if you wait for your email to be integrated at a later date. I just can’t promise when that will be, as this Patreon feature is currently in beta.
It does mean that video interviews will be stored differently. Instead of being paywalled at the end of regular newsletters, they will now be available as products available to paid subscribers or as individual purchases.
So if you don’t want to become a paid subscriber but are interested in one specific interview, you can just pick it up for a few bucks.
What about paid subscribers?
Ya’ll have stuck with me for so long, I want to reward your loyalty. I’m moving all $5/month paid subscribers over to our $10 for no extra cost.
Use code BABS61 to get 50% your first month as a premium ‘Prairie Dog’ subscriber.
Because of how Patreon works, this will unfortunately only apply for one month, so if you’re planning on sticking around, the annual option might be the move. If the annual doesn’t work for you, hit me up and we can talk about refreshing discount codes.
Anything else?
If you have any questions at any point in the process, please feel free to comment or email me at a.m.weissinger@proton.me and we’ll get it figured out!
Thank you for coming on this journey with me. This is just the beginning of Positively Nonbinary.
All my love,
Mayson/Annie
